Should Roadside Memorials Be ALLOWED or BANNED

A pretty Roadside Memorial set with Red Roses.  Doesn’t seem to be any name mentioned.

And the age old question continues to raise it’s ugly head but just in the form of a different question.  Should Roadside Memorials be banned or allowed. Banned or allowed versus legal or illegal…..right?

And if allowed, how can or should they be allowed or if a state wide band is set in place, what to do with the existing Roadside Memorials that were “allowed” and now they are banned.  That question and questions is/are room for another few write up articles on Roadside Memorial processes management.

Now, the few places that we have seen any kind of collected effort to answer the question or should Roadside Memorials be Banned or Allowed has always pointed to…

Yes, Roadside Memorials SHOULD BE BANNED across the board and NOT allowed on Roadsides, Highways, Byways, Medians, Intersections and the like.  The favor looks to be a 66% BANNED to a 33% NOT BANNED vote or very close to that or 2/3rds to 1/3rd vote to ban them.  Those numbers are by no means anything official, but just from a glance what it looks like.

There are many many good and well articulated reasons on why to have Roadside Memorials Banned or Allowed.  We have read countless reasons over and over again and to some, it’s cut and dry but to others its on the line as it is to others to 100% allow the Roadside Memorials.  We are going to put up some of the reasons why folks are in favor or not in favor of the Roadside Memorials being banned or allowed.

We know that there are 1000’s of reasons, but if you read enough of them, you will see the pattern start to develop on if the Roadside Memorials should be allowed or banned.  There are not a lot of information studies out there that have direct comments or feedback, so we can only share with you what we have heard or seen from our resources.

Everything for the most part seems to come down to Roadway SAFTEY for ALL.  Or at least, that’s the argument that they push for and all be it,……a good one, it’s always up for debate.  When you ask if Roadside Memorials should be banned or allowed, one of the compelling factors here is that a family member has died.  Meaning that there was a dead body involved and that there starts the controversy that will probably never go away as far as reasons or debates go regardless of the rules or laws set in place.  And knowing the human race,….Roadside Memorials will ALWAYS be put up no matter what.

Memorials on the Interstate and State Roads should be banned on a federal level.
With the excess speeds of traffic not only are they a distraction, but the loved ones that put the memorials out there expect DOT to maintain their memorials. When roadwork needs to be done, they expect you to contact them (no contact information on the memorial) thereby delaying the work. And the huge backlash when the memorials are missing, from the loved ones either because of roadwork or simply because someone removed them.

IMPO cemeteries and graveyards are where you go to mourn your dead. There are parts of the road that has so many memorials its beginning to look like a boneyard!

It’s out of hand and it should be banned on a national level.
