  • Sophia Nelson, a child just 12 years old, lost her life after she was hit by a car at the mid-block crosswalk on SR A1A. She was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where she died 3 days after the accident. According to the police, Sophia was coming back home from the beach and was crossing the road when she was hit by a four-door Toyota. The 82-year-old driver, Jo Anne Stanker, failed to stop the car at the crosswalk. She claimed that she did not see the victim coming. The accident happened on December 22, and Sophia died 3 days later due to brain injuries.
